Marmoucha Orchestra, ft. Antonio Lizana
Carried by the Wind

Flamenco, Eastern sounds and dance in spiritual fusion.
Carried by the Wind is a musical meeting of flamenco, Eastern melodies and Sama dance. A rich and spiritual performance in which the Marmoucha Orchestra, led by bassist Arin Keshishi, merges with the soulful flamenco vocals and saxophone of Antonio Lizana. Lizana became fascinated with Eastern musical traditions through the work of Turkish multi-instrumentalist and composer Omar Faruk Tekbilek. He won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Jazz Album as a member of Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and gained international acclaim with his own Antonio Lizana Quintet.
That quintet’s bassist, Keshishi, now leads Marmoucha Orchestra, blending modern influences with musical traditions from Southwest Asia and North Africa. A powerful addition to this concert is Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh, who brings his personal story of exile, resilience and transformation to the stage, inspired by the mystical Sama dance from the Sufi tradition. Carried by the Wind transcends disciplines and cultures, weaving together music, dance and spirituality in collaboration with Flamenco Biënnale Nederland.
