Andrés Marín is the original flamenco freedom fighter.

This choreographer and bailaor is one of the great innovators who has given flamenco a whole new appearance in the 21st century. In his latest creation Yātrā, which will have its world première at the 5th Flamenco Biennial in The Hague, this ‘Picasso of Flamenco’ will explore the most primitive roots of flamenco in India, in a partnership with French-Algerian (hiphop) dancer Kader Attou and the Divana Ensemble from Rajasthan.

Yātrā is a journey that unites two departure points in the world. Two artistic forms of expression, flamenco and music from the north of India, whose common origins have often been sources of dialogue and fertile exchange. Andrés Marín translates them into movement and with his contemporary view depicts the interpretation of a present-day India.

Yātrā is about progress, about exploring a shared space – an urban space in a world in which, in spite of globalisation, India remains India. From London to Paris. Where flamenco renews itself, seeping through a filter of age-old codes. Kader Attou’s hiphop fits into this exchange of voices in the most natural way.

Due to circumstances Kader Attou will not be able to dance this performance, Amine Boussa will take his place.
