In the second part, Rebel’s Cross, Sara Cano dances alongside Indian dancers Sooraj Subramaniam and Kamala Devam in a piece choreographed especially for the biennial by Kalpana Raghuraman. Taking the Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam and flamenco as her starting points, the Dutch-Hindustani choreographer goes in search of crossroads in dance with her dancers, to music especially composed for the piece by Jaap van Keulen.
Rebels’ Cross is a richly varied, powerful danced exercise.
Rebels’ Cross has a clear dramatic thread, playing with differences and common ground.
