BvR Flamenco Big Band
BvR Flamenco Big Band
In 2011, Hispano-Dutch saxofonist Bernard van Rossum founded his Flamenco Big Band. A 21 piece jazz ensemble conceived around a core of flamenco protagonists.
In his compositions, the flamenco element is taken to another level through colourful orchestration and the dynamic range of the big band. The festival will also feature the smaller version of this project, the BvR Flamenco-jazz 6tet: 18 January Volkshotel Amsterdam and 29 January TivoliVredenburg Utrecht. The BvR Flamenco Big Band recently won the first prize at the Meerjazz International Big Band Competition and van Rossum himself was granted the award for best soloist. At the Dutch Flamenco Biennial, they will be presenting their début album Jaleo Holandés, featuring Miguel Rodriguez on piano and Martijn Vink on drums.
