Alba Carmona & Isabelle Laudenbach & Las Migas & Lisa Bause
Noche de flamenco Catalan
From their base in Barcelona, the four women members of Las Migas set out to find their own flamenco sound, eager to explore new forms.
On their latest album ‘Nosotras Somos’ (This is who we are) and with new singer Alba Carmona, they prove they are strong and feminine, modern and Mediterranean, with ‘happy songs that jar and sorrowful songs that tickle’. The salty see breeze from Havana that blows through the compositions betrays the hand of producer Raúl Rodríguez. Rodríguez introduced the Cuban tres (a small six-string guitar) into flamenco with his group Son de la Frontera at the Flamenco Biennial 2008. Flamenco Light? Yes, in the best possible meaning of the word, but with the ‘unbearable lightness of being’ in every note.
