Exciting audiovisual journey following the flamenco guitar
Raúl Cantizano is one of the most creative flamenco guitarists of his time. With a thorough knowledge of ancient flamenco styles at his fingertips, he eagerly explores the boundaries of flamenco as a musical explorer, following in the footsteps of John Cage and the English multi-instrumentalist Fred Frith. His music navigates between flamenco, ambient, rock, and improv. Cantizano is all of these things. More than a musician, he calls himself a “collector of sounds.”
In “Zona Acordonada,” the title refers to the crime scene cordoned off by police tape, Cantizano plays music outside the box, cutting across tapes, borders, and flamenco codes. With the DJ/VJ duo Los Voluble, he creates a stimulating mix of flamenco, prepared guitar, and electronics, set to a stream of samples and video projections. In this musical and audiovisual journey, fragments from flamenco history intersperse with live video and images from current political events. “A feast for the senses,” wrote the Spanish press.
Raul Cantizano, unclassifiable and unique guitarist, an explorer of the limits of the instrument and genres. He has accompanied and formed part of the most innovative flamenco projects of the 21st century. Working with Belén Maya, Niño de Elche, Rocío Márquez, María Moreno and Andrés Marín amongst many leading flamenco artists. His latest work Zona Acordonada, an audiovisual concert for the 'prepared flamenco guitar' together with Los Voluble, premiered at the XXI Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, and has been presented at numerous festivals across Spain.
