María Marín
A Dúo
Terrace Concert beside the IJ
Singer María Marín, a rapidly rising star in the flamenco firmament, creates an original fusion of classical, flamenco and jazz in her solo concerts, while accompanying herself on the guitar. Marín, born and raised in Andalucía, discovered her passion for flamenco in the Netherlands after studying classical guitar at the conservatories of Seville and The Hague. Her exceptional talent has led to collaborations with celebrated dancers such as Manuel Liñán, Leonor Leal, Vanesa Aibar and pioneer Israel Galván.
Her style is an amalgamation of classical Spanish guitar music and flamenco, and her lyrics resonate with the echo of Federico García Lorca. At the same time, Marín opens the door to jazz influences, and in this concert, to the improvisations of trumpeter Antonio Moreno Glazkov. During the 9th Flamenco Biennial, this Spanish-Russian, Amsterdam-based musician played as a guest with Juanfe Pérez’ jazz flamenco quartet. Now he shares the stage with María Marín for the first time, in the Muziekgebouw’s Terrace Concert series. A Dúo, a first!
In September, María Marín returns for a world premiere and three-day tour of the Netherlands with her latest concert project: ‘Las Tres Marías’, with saxophonist Juan M. Jiménez and dancer Leonor Leal.
