Guitarist Tino van der Sman travels to Amsterdam from his hometown Seville for a summer concert on the terrace of Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

Along with him he will bring Sevillian cantaor Vicente Gelo and percussionist Udo Demandt. While the sun sets, they will bring a session in the spirit of ‘curiosos impertinentes’.

Curiosos Impertinentes: that’s what romantic travellers called themselves who explored Spain and its culture in the nineteenth century. The Dutch guitarist Tino van der Sman made the move to Seville twenty years ago, just like those audaciously curious travellers. There he gained recognition as a flamenco guitarist, as one of very few non-Spanish musicians, and grew out to be a sought after companion to the top of contemporary flamenco. He shared the stage with artists such as Israel Galván, Ana Morales, Úrsula López, Isabel Bayón, Pastora Galván and Antonio Canales, and made studio recordings with Estrella Morente, Jorge Pardo, Sal Marina, Arcángel, Rocío Márquez among many others. One of his teachers, guitarist Gerardo Núñez, praised the talent and individuality which distinguish this Dutch ‘flamenco cub’ in the ever demanding flamenco scene. Tino was part of the most important flamenco festivals from Spain (Sevilla, Jerez de la Frontera) to Mexico (Monterrey). He has been a regular guest at the Flamenco Biennial Netherlands, last in 2021 when he performed the memorable guitar recital ‘Tres’ together with Arturo Ramón and Joes Wieggers.

A concert brought to you by Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in collaboration with 4’33 grand café and Flamenco Biennial Netherlands.
